DL Hughley Drops His CNN Show

DL Hughley has quit “D.L. Hughley Breaks the News,” his late-night show on CNN.  TVNewser reports that Hughley dropped out because of personal matters.

“D.L. approached CNN about being permanently based in Los Angeles, where his family lives,” CNN told the Mediabistro.com site.  “To accommodate this, we agreed upon a new role where he will be a contributor for the network based in Los Angeles. We are eager to continue our relationship with D.L., who is a tremendous talent and a valued colleague.”

Hughley’s CNN program received poor reviews when it first premiered, but did attract a solid overall audience.  Producing the show in Los Angeles would not have been cost-effective for CNN, who was only drawing 200,000 in the coveted 25-54 demographic.

All of the numbers are fine.  The justify CNN shooting down Hughley’s desire to shoot the show in Los Angeles.  But “D.L. Hughley Breaks The News” wasn’t funny.  It was corny and terrible.  Good riddance, I say.
