Chris Brown has been charged with felony assault and making criminal threats as a result of his alleged altercation with Rihanna the day of the Grammys. Brown faces up to four years in jail on all four counts, if convicted.

“R&B singer Chris Brown was charged by the District Attorney’s office today with felony counts of assault and making criminal threats in connection with a February incident in which his girlfriend allegedly was physically attacked,” the Los Angeles District Attorney’s statement reads.  The statement does not announce Rihanna as the victim, because of the department’s policy on domestic-violence cases.  The statement did refer to the victim as Robyn F.;  Rihanna’s given name is Robyn Fenty.

Brown is scheduled to appear at an arraignment Thursday after 3:30 p.m. local time.  He’s currently out on $50,000 bail after turning himself in to Los Angeles police shortly after the alleged incident.

I’ve taken a couple pretty intense law classes and there is no way that Brown ever has a trial.  He and his lawyers have seen the photo above, and there is absolutely no way that his case improves in front of a jury.

Oh, and Brown and Rihanna have reportedly reunited.  There were reports last week that Rihanna was pregnant, and then there were reports that Brown and Rihanna were going to get married last weekend.

All I know is that this is one of the most fascinating stories of the year.  Mostly because no one really knows why Brown allegedly slugged Rihanna in the face.  We don’t know anything about their relationship, and we really don’t know all that much about their personal lives.  We’d like to think we do with UsMagazine and other gossip rags using unnamed sources left and right.  But we don’t know a thing.

I feel stupid.  Just minutes after I wrote this, I found the following on WWTDD.com regarding what happened on the night of the altercation from the detailed police report.

Rihanna read a three-page text message on Brown’s phone from a woman. An argument ensued and Brown allegedly tried forcing Rihanna out of the car but couldn’t because she was wearing her seat belt. 

Brown then allegedly shoved Rihanna’s head against the passenger window. When Rihanna turned to face him, Brown punched her, then continued punching her while driving.  Blood spattered all over Rihanna’s clothing and in the interior of the car. Her mouth was filled with blood.

Brown allegedly told Rihanna, “I’m going to beat the **** out of you when we get home. You wait and see.”

Rihanna called her assistant and left a message saying, “I am on my way home. Make sure the cops are there when I get there.”

Brown then replied, “You just did the stupidest thing ever. I’m going to kill you.”

According to the report, Brown continued to punch Rihanna, bit her on her ear, her fingers and put her in a headlock — she almost lost consciousness.

Like I said before, expect Chris Brown to seek a plea sooner rather than later.
