HBO’s Flight of the Conchords posted the first episode of its second season on Funnyordie.com, as a way to let people who’ve not experienced the show see it and to get fans excited for the second season.
But after 10 days, Conchords has turned into a huge hit, drawing 250,000 streaming hits on Will Ferrell’s comedy site.
This was something that no one saw coming.
The first-season finale of Conchords drew 950,000 on HBO, and only 100,000 saw the first season-premiere on MySpace last year. While one could argue that the show wasn’t yet on the air, there were commercials on HBO and other networks as well. So the comedy/singing duo’s product was indeed out in the market.
The good thing for people who don’t have HBO is that Funnyordie.com and the pay-for-cable network have now joined forces – meaning that there will certainly be more collaborations between the two entities in the coming years.
How exciting!
In addition to Conchords, HBO has also posted the first episode of new series Eastbound & Down on the site.
Check out both right now, or whenever you want (because it’s the Internet) because they’re really funny.
