Gervais Criticizes Brand and Ross’ Radio Show Gag

British comedian Ricky Gervais has publically come out and criticized Russell Brand and Jonathan Ross for their radio show’s prank phone calls to Fawlty Towets star Andrew Sachs.  But The Office star says that the whole ordeal was blown way out of control.

During the prank call – which eventually led to Brand quitting his job as a BBC radio host – the Forgetting Sarah Marshall actor and Ross called up Sachs’ voicemail and left some pretty explicit messages.

The worst thing was arguably when Brand bragged about banging Sachs’ granddaughter Georgina Baillie.

“It did go too far, yes. Jonathan was devastated,” Gervais said about his friend, Ross. “I’ve spoken to him a few times and he knows he was in the wrong. The whole thing got blown out of proportion. Obviously what they did was wrong. It wasn’t very funny.”

But Gervais support edgy humor, so he thinks that they should indeed get a second chance.  At least Ross should.

“The sex and the baying for blood and all that. It was wrong. But they do know that now. Jonathan has apologised. He knew he made a mistake – but he didn’t kill anyone.”
